Merry Christmas

Wowzzzers!!! We had an awesome classroom party today.  A big THANK YOU goes out to all of my moms and dads who helped make this possible.

We made Christmas trees, had a snowball fight in the classroom, decorated cookies, read stories and had pizza for lunch!

My 5 Senses - Touch

This week we are working on our 5 senses.  Today we talked about touch.  First, the kids discussed with a partner how different objects feel.  Porcupine - "poky," feather - soft, rock - hard, shaving cream - WOW Mrs. Rucker, really!!! Yes, we got to play in shaving cream.  Don't worry, before the shaving cream, we had to do a "little" work!!  I gave them 5 different objects to feel, and we wrote down words to describe them.

 Super shaving cream fun!!!

Fun With Symmetry

We sure had fun with our symmetry unit.  Yep, I sure did!!  I taped them right down the middle.  heheheh  They loved it.   This was a great way to demonstrate symmetry, since we are symmetrical, on the outside a least. :)
The kids also had a fun time painting symmetrical butterflies and building symmetrical shapes with the blocks.

Solid Shapes

This week we stared working on our solid shapes!!! Yeah!!  Today we ate our shapes and built them with marshmallows and toothpicks.   We used cheese for cubes, KIX cereal for spheres, Bugles for cones, and mini-marshmallows for cylinders.  First we sorted our shape snacks and then graphed the results.  Of course, we got to eat them when we were finished!  :)  Later in the afternoon, I gave the kids more mini-marshmallows and tooth picks.   I told them to try and build a cube, pyramid, and rectangular prism.  They ROCKED!!
