Wow!!!!! We have 4 pages of words this week!! :)

Writing Practice.....Super Fun!

I am back home after four relaxing days in Colorado! :)  It was a great little get away with my husband and a couple of friends!  Yeah!

So, back to the classroom on a Monday morning with 20 little ones who missed me very much.  And, it has to be done.....practice on printing the letters we know! :)  We like to make it a game sometimes.  I use a lot of Kagan Cooperative Learning in my classroom, and one of our favorite things to do is play Round Table when we practice printing.  (Minus the table because we like to sit on the floor!) :)

The group with the letter printed correctly the most times....."wins!"  (We really don't have a winner, we just celebrate everyone.)  The students are very engaged, and they really do try to print the letter perfectly because they want it to "count" towards their team score.  It can get a little loud (with lots of encouraging go, go, go, go's), but when everyone is working......I can handle a little noise! :)

What Do You Do????

What do you do when you have to teach a class full of "energetic" kindergarten students all day without a voice? Eeeeek!  Well......I teach "J" and give them all scarves to juggle!  Wow!!  Good thing we all just received speaker systems for our classrooms.  :o)

Kansas Sunflowers

In the book we read Gus Grows a Plant, Gus plants a sunflower.  Well, here in Kansas, we have sunflowers everywhere right now.  Gus grows a very big sunflower!  He even stood on a stool, and it was still taller than him!  I told the kids that I had a sunflower at my house that was bigger than me.  They couldn't believe it.  So what did any good teacher do, I brought it in.  They loved it.

Look What I Grew

Wow!! I  always love this unit and project.  We have been working on living and non-living things, what they need, and how they grow.  One week ago we "planted" seeds to watch how the roots start to grow.  We definitely needed to talk about why we were putting them on the paper towel and not in dirt.  Once the kids understood that if the seeds were in the dirt, we would not be able to see the roots grow, they took off.  And look, they grew!!  Time to find a cup with some dirt.

Remembering 9/11

Today we talked about 9/11.  What a tough topic to talk about!  We started off by watching part of the video on BrainPop and then a short clip on Discovery Video Streaming from the actual day.  We focused on talking about who was there to help when those people were hurting!!  The students were very engaged, and we had a great discussion.  The activity ended with us building the Twin Towers.  The kids loved this, and we finished with the thought that we will never forget all of those GREAT HELPERS who were there for us on that very sad day.

  

Fundraiser Raiser

FUNDRAISER ORDERS DUE TODAY!  If you have not returned your child's fundraiser orders, please do so ASAP.  They were due today, September 10.  Thanks for all your help with this.

Meet Timmy the Tiger

The kids loved learning the letter T.  We got to meet Timmy the Tiger.  Ask the kids to show you our gesture which helps us remember the sound T makes.  But watch out, you might get TICKLED!
